The Playstation Vita is a handheld gaming console released in February in US and Europe (released December 2011 in Japan). The console is made by Sony Computer Entertainment and follows up on the Playstation Portable.
The device features a 5inch OLED touchscreen, two analog sticks, a D-pad and a quadcore SGX543MP4+ graphics chipset. It also features a rear touch pad, two cameras, stereo speakers, microphone, three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer, three-axis compass, a built-in GPS receiver as well as Wifi, 3G and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity.
It is supposedly to be able to compete with Nintendo 3DS but the PS Vita does not, however, have any 3D technology.
It does has moved away from the thumbsticks only design and has now a gyroscope and accelerometer built in for controlling your character instead. This means that we are going to see games that ask you to move your console around, perhaps in combination with the camera, showing you the room and so make the games interactive with real life environments implemented. And this last thing is something Nintendo 3DS also has done (VR included).
Perhaps the most unique part of the PS Vita is the rear touch pad allowing gamedevelopers to add very specific gameplay to their games. Just think of it if you can touch backgrounds or characters from both sides of the console!
Some games have already been released for this console such as F1 2011, Little Deviants, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, Mortal Kombat, Metal Gear Solid HD and more is to come soon!
It’s worth to check it out!
