Nintendo Direct 1 October 2013


Yesterday Nintendo held another Nintendo Direct. This time about upcoming 3DS and WiiU titles. It includes a reappearance of Sonic in two different games, updates to WiiU, new missions to Pikmin 3 and a new Kirby side-scroller for the 3DS.


Sonic back in Super Smash Bros.
Sega’s iconic blue hedgehog Sonic is going to be in Super Smash Bros for 3DS and WiiU. Iwata refers to him as the “Blue Blur”. Super Smash Bros is due for release somewhere next year (2014).

Mario and Sonic Olympic Games
Sonic will also return in Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games which will include the various sports of the actual wintergames as well as some Mario and Sonic specific games.

Donkey Kong Country delayed
The upcoming Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze has been delayed until somewhere in 2014.
The team needs more time to make the game better for an optimum game experience.

Pikmin 3
New Mission Modes will be sold via a DLC on the eShop. First round is the “Collect Treasure” Pack (Stages 7-10).
A new software update to Pikmin 3 will make sure that you can now see the global record for each Mission Mode stage in the top right corner. You also get one free new stage.

Legend of Zelda: A Link between worlds
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will launch for Nintendo 3DS in Europe on the 22nd of November.

Super Mario 3D world gameplay
A gameplay trailer at the Nintendo Direct showed off some of the new gameplay in this game. It is focusing on a variety of new powerups and items. The games’ signature cat suit item, will allow Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad to run up walls and destroy enemies with powerful scratches. There will also be an item that will copy your character on screen for dual effect and another item turns you into a Hameer Bro. Also the classic Tanooki suit is making a return in the new game.

Ace Attorney demo available
A demo for Capcom’s Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies is now available.
Dual Destinies itself will be released on the 24th of October 2013, exclusively on the eShop for EUR24.99 in Europe.

3DS Streetpass relay feature update
For those who are able to use the Nintendo Zone’s, the locations will soon share up to six recent visitors at a time with your 3DS.

Wii Party U minigames
The new Wii Party U will have next to a lot of party games also have some face-to-face minigames so that you can enjoy it with just two players as well.
The trailer below includes short fragments of knitting, tank battles, slot-car racing and ninja competitions:

New Kirby for 3DS
This was the last minute highlight of this Nintendo Direct. A new Kirby title is coming to Nintendo 3DS next year.
The first Kirby game on the 3DS will be a side-scrolling platformer in which Kirby will move between the foreground and the background, as well as from left to right. He’ll also have an “inhale everything” ability that will allow him to clear the screen in certain parts of the game.
