For today’s article we made a small video of Rayman Challenges App for WiiU.

[/intro]

This game, if you may call it a game, has been exclusively launched to WiiU as a ‘sorry’ to the fact that Ubisoft delayed the launch of their game Rayman Legends. Rayman Legends was supposed to come out in the first Quarter of 2013 for WiiU only and come later to the other consoles. Right before the launch Ubisoft decided to instead launch Rayman Legends together with the other consoles in November 2013. This brought a wave of annoyance over Ubisoft and this made them decide to launch a smaller game for WiiU exclusively before the launch of Rayman Legends.

Rayman Challenges App is effectively the demo plus some challenge levels. The challenges allow you to compete against other WiiU Rayman Challenge App players. The game keeps track both of weekly scores and daily scores. Every day a new chance on being at the top. There are two different challenges at the first difficulty level.

One of them is collecting a certain amount of lumies as fast as possible (timer). The other is an endless level in which you will have to make the longest run possible (without letting the running Murphy die). In this last challenge the score is measured in meters.

Every completed run’s collected amount of lumies will add to your total lumies score. The lumies score will help you unlock more functionality and characters.

Every challenge has the ability to show so called “ghosts” which are basicly the competitors of the level, so you can see whether you will end up faster than the others. You can also be among the ghost competitors when you’ve played a level once before that day. That way you can see whether you are improving your own score or not.

The video describes it all, so check it out:

The app is available for free on the Nintendo eShop.

Game on!

WiiU System Update
Today the big and long awaited WiiU System update came out. It took a good time downloading and installing, but then you also have a fantastic new and fast system in your hands. Both console and gamecontroller (gamepad) did get a software update.

The main features of this update are that the console is faster at loading games and applications and that updates and downloads can happen in the background while you have turned your system “off”. This turning off means that you are not playing with the console, it isn’t really running but goes in a sort of standby mode to do just the downloads and installs. While it is in this standby mode, the LED light will turn orange. One should note though that it isn’t allowed to unplug power or to plug/unplug USB devices while the console is in the standby mode.

Here are some of the other features of this system update:
– The console can also install updates while you are playing a game.
– When pressing the B button while powering on the console, the Wii system will boot straight away without the need to boot the WiiU operating system first.
– You will be able to copy and move around your save data between the WiiU system and the USB devices as well as between the USB devices.

For the complete list of updates, see: http://www.nintendo.co.uk/News/2013/April/Major-Wii-U-update-features-new-services-and-faster-performance-752137.html

Virtual Console
Tomorrow the Virtual Console software will be added to the WiiU, along with a list of old NES and Super Nintendo games, such as Super Mario World, Excitebike, Mario’s Super Picross, F-Zero, Ice Climber, Donkey Kong Jr. and Punch-Out.

Later on we can also expect classics such as Pac Man, Super Metroid and Mega Man, Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. series will be available soon. Popular Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 games will also be added in the future.

Nintendo on E3
Nintendo has last week announced to not have any big conference at E3 this year, but nonetheless they will be there to showcase new content for their consoles.

Miiverse on other platforms
Miiverse is now also available on the internet, which you can open in a browser on either PC or mobile phone.
Website Miiverse: https://miiverse.nintendo.net/
There is also an Android app, but this app isn’t released by Nintendo (own risk in other words).

Ubisoft has released Rayman Legends Online Challenges mode on the WiiU. We’ve downloaded it and are testing it out. We hope to come with some sort of review or video the coming week.

That’s it for today!

Game on and have a good weekend!

A couple of days ago I prepared the ‘ Contests’ map on our Minecraft server. This flatworld designed map is basicly just emptyness. So it was pretty hard to start creating something on a planet full of grass.

[/intro]

Oh, and I thought I was alone, but apparantly I forgot about turning off the creation of villager cities, so surprisingly I wasn’t alone.
I started off with this video by trying to craft everything by hand, until I figured out how to use the plugins effectively. Worldedit let’s you do a lot of interesting things, so I have tried to make use of this plugin for this map.

First of all, I created a Creative Mode Survival building grid for a contest in which we will let the contestants build the object requested in a set limited time.

Later on in the video I also design the similar grid size for the creation of the survival mode contest and fill the grid with some basic materials with which the player can build the requested object.

Via the editor MCEdit I then copy the materials to all the other areas in the grid as to make sure that all players start out with the same and will not have any advantages over the other.

Why do I say requested object? Well because we plan to ask the player to create an object in a certain set theme. This could be like a little house/hut but it could just aswell be a certain object – with or without functionality. Creative mode contest will have a time limit, survival mode uses limited resources. It will be interesting to see what people will build in this contest.
Ofcourse, over time we will just expand on the existing grid.

So, check out my video:

and then I just say: Game on! Because soon we will be back with an actual contest video!

A while back, which I found only just, there was a Guild Wars 2 player that wrote an article on Forbes about getting the urge to eat the food she was crafting in Guild Wars 2 for real.

[/intro]

And so she went experiencing in the kitchen herself after playing the game. She came up with four working recipes with tasty food that you can also do in your own kitchen… and you don’t need a skill of 400 to be able to prepare it!

I will write one that sounded nice to me right here.. the rest you can check out on her original article.
