Currently we are in our Easter holidays and have time for things we didn’t get time for in a long time. It also unfortunately means that we cannot produce any video’s at the moment. But there is so much more in life than producing the whole time.

[/intro]

Everybody needs a break from time to time. The Easter holiday was one of these break moments for us. A time we visit family and spend time together. At my family’s area baby cows were born (of the type Dexter and Hereford) and next to that we had nice food and activities in snow and mountain.

This holiday also gives time for working on my backlog. I managed to play out Ken’s Rage 2, which I wrote about a few days ago and I also played out Super Paper Mario Sticker Star on the 3DS.

Giving yourself a break also gives you the opportunity to regain strength and energy to deliver new creative creations.

Unfortunately I haven’t had the time and tools to produce any video’s for you, but rest assured that I will produce something soon when I come back home again. In April we will have lot’s of new interesting articles with reviews, previews, gaming news and video’s!

Happy Easter and game on!

FotnS Ken’s rage 2 is one of the games I have been busy with. I decided to write this review when I completed the game, since it can take a while to get into the game itself. In my honest opinion this game deserves more praise than the Western community has given sofar. It is a Japanese game and its unfair to give it the typical Western expectations. Here are my takes of the game that I truly enjoyed playing.

[/intro]

Title: Ken’s Rage 2 – Fist of the North Star
Console: WiiU
Year: 2013
Publisher: Tecmo KOEI
Developers: KOEI
Genre: Beat-em-up

First of, FotnS Ken’s Rage 2 is truly to its manga / anime series, the story is straight away taken from there. I have never seen or read the series but the story has kept me interested throughout the whole game. The story takes place in an apocalyptic settings. You play as Kenshiro, the succesor to Hoktu Shinken. He is a kind-hearted man who tries his best to help the people in need. I have fallen in love with this character and his struggles. Other characters are presented in the game and wow I must say I was really taken in to their own stories. I was amazed with the character development. You can actually learn a thing or two from the story here. The story is split into two arcs. The story itself is very well presented, a bit like a comic with some CG.

Gameplay
Moving on to the gameplay. You have your character and as the story progresses you will get access to other playable characters and their fighting styles. Every character has their own set of skills which is really fun to experiment with.
To progress through the world, you will have to defeat a certain amount of enemies or meet the requirements such as save an X amount of civllians, kill 200 enemies or kill as many in a certain time limit etc. Tthe quests can quickly become the same ordeal which can be rather boring.

After progressing through a cerain part of the stage you will be presented with various boss fights and they can be fun! Especially the end bosses.

Enough about that, the game does offer a level-up system. Depending on how you fight you can level different fragments of your character, aura defense might etc. When you defeat enemies, especially with combos, they drop blue orbs which help you to level up. Killing enemies gives you an aura. These auras are shown as a square and allow you to use special attacks, more can be unlocked as the story progresses.

Scattered across each level, you will find food that will restore your health and aura. Scrolls are hidden in chests. Scrolls are useful to power-up your skills and some give bonuses! if you find a save-statue, you can save your game progress and you can play around with the skill grid of your character. Having the same icon on your scroll and in the grid will give you a skill neux that will greatly empower your character!

After the mission is completed, your progress will be saved and you will get a mission ranking depending how well or how poorly you performed.
Once you have finished certain arcs of the story, you can unlock characters that can be used in dream-mode. Dream-mode allows you to learn more about that character and play through special designed missions.

Sound and Music
As I said, I fell in love with Kenshiro. He is a well-developed character and so are his friends and foes. The voice-acting in this game is in Japanese and thank god they didn’t change it. The Japanese voice-over adds the charm and feel to the atmosphere. I believe an English voice-over would not give the same connection to that character as the Japanese one would. The sound is very well designed and the music! Oh I love the music, it’s metal all the way. There are different kinds of sound-tracks with the game, which are really pleasant to listen to.

Graphics
On the graphics side however, the game suffers from random slowdowns. Since I play on the WiiU, I can see the game is not the best port. However, the slowdowns didn’t bother me as the overall graphics in the first story arc didn’t look that great. The second story arc offers more eye candy but nothing spectacular. Sadly to say the game uses the same enemy model over and over again. Only the bosses and the main characters differ ( they are extremely well designed btw).

How ever the graphics are quickly forgiven as the story and music are fantastic!

All I can say is that I had lots of fun playing this game. A lot of patience is required and this game isn’t for everyone. If you love Dynasty Warriors style of game and North of the Fist Star, than this game is a welcome addition to your collection.

Thank you Tecmo Koei for introducing me to such a fantastic story!

MineCraft Realms is a system that is in development by Mojang. Perhaps you’ve heard about it before, perhaps this is totally new for you. I heard about the name, but didn’t know what it was about, neither that it was by Mojang themselves.

MineCraft Realms will become a server rental service for Minecraft players that want to run their own server but have no resources for it. Sofar I have no clue yet what this implies, but I get the feeling it will become the original server version that comes with MineCraft.
With the later coming MOD API for both game and server, I suppose that the original MineCraft Server becomes more interesting than it is currently. Also can the hosting business of MineCraft be a very lucrative good money business for Mojang and the service would fit very well to their product.

Next to MineCraft Realms for the normal PC version / Mac / Linux, there will also come out a MineCraft Pocket Realms that will give the pocketversion of the game a server environment to play around with.

How much MineCraft Realm servers will cost and with how many people you will be able to play on the servers is not clear yet. The system is just in early alpha testing with a select group of people.

We will have to follow the developments of these systems the coming time. For myself it doesn’t seem to be too interesting though. I rather run my CraftBukkit version of the MineCraft server and run this on my own servers which support much more plugins and people.

Read on Mojang’s pages more about this new system in development.

Happy Easter and game on!

Today the patch went live in Guild Wars 2 and, boy what a joy it is. I am very happy with the new patch because it adds more depth in WvW and the living story.

[/intro]

The thing that took me by surprise was the Nintendo reference. Yes, you read it right! Rata Sum has a GIANT GameCube and who is controlling it? Well the master himself, Moto, who looks like Miyamoto and speaks like Miyamoto.

This so called over-sized gamecube will be part of an Aprils fool joke from ArenaNet. The game will venture into the 8-bit era. The controller reminds me of an old NES/Atari.

There will be a new minigame that will somehow give you the unique super weapon and achievements. These weapons are all reference from games such as the Legend of Zelda series. Here are some screenshots I wanted to share.

I am very curious what the first of April will bring. What do you think?

Tomorrow evening ArenaNet will release another (big) patch to Guild Wars 2 in their recent live story series called Flame & Frost.

[/intro]
The epic story continues in the third part of the Flame & Frost series. A hybrid army erupts through portals in the Shiverpeaks and an army of dredge and charr Flame Legion is going to massacre anything that stands in their way. You will meet two new characters, Braham and rox the charr, two heroes, that try to defend their homelands.

New features:

– Two epic missions from two (anti?) heroes. Together you will defend them from the armies attacking the homeland.
– New WvW progression and abilities
Which means new WvW ranks and new World XP with which you will be able to buy titles and abilities. Also there will be new WvW achievements for you to explore and achieve.
– New Guild Bounty Hunt Targets
– More fugitives will be on the run, so multiple possible targets that one will have to randomly get assigned to kill.

Introducing Leaderboards
The website with statistics will not be active yet until a week or so after tomorrow’s patch. In game the leaderboards will give you statistics on WvW ranks, PvP player rankings and total achievement points.

I’m interested in two things: The new storyline and the leaderboards can be interesting because of that you normally cannot see stuff that another one is wearing or having or total scores such as points in Achievements.
