How will gaming be in 2013? We tell you our ideas about how gaming will turn out in the gaming industry of 2013.

[/intro]

First and foremost there will be another E3 that will bring many new games under the attention.
We hope that Nintendo will come with their new Zelda title announcement for WiiU, or perhaps a new Metroid game. Possibly Microsoft and Sony will announce details about their upcoming consoles, but it’s not too sure they will be able to release that in 2013. For Sony it’s a difficult time because they have some financial issues due to failures in other platforms and Microsoft has still a rather strong position in the market with their Xbox360 and its peripherials.

Kickstarter game projects played an important role in 2012 for indie developers. We believe that Kickstarter and platforms similar to Kickstarter (for example IndieGogo) will also in 2013 provide the resources for indie developers to bring out great games with deep gameplay and great gaming value. Hopefully the bigger game producers will pick up this “importance of gamedesign and gamedepth over game graphics” and produce better games, but that is something we can only hope for.

We think that Pikmin will be well received (WiiU) and that Nintendo will come with an announcement for a new Mario game in 3D for WiiU.

The new Sonic game will do well, as previous titles have become better and better.

On the MMO side we expect a lot of new content and fixes for Guild Wars 2 and probably a new expansion for WoW. Hopefully an announcement by the same company on their ‘Titan’ title.

– In the end of 2012 we got Asheron’s Call 2 back. We wonder whether this means that we will see more shutdown titles returning to the gaming market, but perhaps altered a little towards the current type of player.
– More details and hopefully a launch of Elder Scrolls Online, but I cannot make predictions over it’s results.
– Perhaps Wildstar will actually come with launch details instead of merely hyping the whole gaming community.

Slender 2 will come out and do well.
Free-To-Play will be seeing a decrease and instead Buy-To-Play will take over in the MMO world.

Mobile gaming becomes more dominant as mobile smart phones get more and more powerful and games get more optimized for them. Indie game developers will be also developing for mobile gaming.

The launch of the Ouya is the beginning of a new type of open console launching era, several others will follow.

Linux gaming becomes more dominant and a valid alternative to Microsoft Windows 8 and the Mac platform.

2012 was a very tumulant year with a lot of titles releasing. 2012 was also a year with a new fenomenom for gaming: Kickstarter.

And from Kickstarter we have seen a lot of new games passing by. It’s also from Kickstarter I expect to have more games the coming year(s). But this article I am writing isn’t about my expectations for 2013, but instead a short story about my impression of 2012.

My biggest highlights this year have been the several beta’s and launch of Guild Wars 2 which I play with my partner; the launch of the new generation console of Nintendo: the WiiU and Torchlight 2. Diablo 3 simply didn’t make me happy producing a quickly published game with a full act 1, a half produced act 2 and a quickly finished off act 3 and 4. Shame.
Torchlight 2 took everything good of Diablo 3 and made a perfect game out of it.

The WiiU, although I didn’t play much with it yet, is just a really cool console with a lot of undiscovered possibilities. I can’t wait for the coming developped games that will more and more show the possibilities of this fantastic console.

Guild Wars 2 is the MMO I have been looking for in many games. It also isn’t perfect, but it is certainly better than anything else out there currently.

Next to that I really have enjoyed the numerous new games that were launched through Kickstarter projects. To name a few: Castle Story and Great Giana sisters. Although I didn’t play them much, they just look beautiful and have a lot of innovativity (if that is a word).

As for beta’s it’s Path of Exile and Project Cars. Played Path of Exile a little and it’s the grim version of Torchlight 2 with a lot of skills in the skilltree. Path of Exile will be free to play too. Project Cars is about racing simulation. I have not the best PC for it to run it, but it is definitely an interesting development. Project Cars is in a crowdfunding project.

Also I play a lot of Minecraft – mainly on my own server with friends and family but also sometimes on a Norwegian server. The amount of new patches for Minecraft has made that difficult though, having to keep updating your server software is rather complicated and annoying. Minecraft isn’t a highlight because the game has become less interesting with boring terrain generation and a lot of bugs that never get fixed. One thing is though interesting for me there: Tekkit. I plan to play Tekkit in early 2013 with Game Mistress and some others and hope to start a web series about it on our YouTube Channel.

For the articles I write for Game Mistress I really enjoyed going back into Transport Tycoon Deluxe, as I used to play this game a lot in the past. It’s a fantastic game and it never grows old. Similar to Transport Tycoon, our evenings between christmas and the coming new years day have been filled with old fashioned Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and 3. Fantastic games or simulators and really hard too actually!

The recent beta – relaunch of Asheron’s Call 2 really made my day. I loved that game before it shut down, now I am able to rejoice it! And I am able to do this with you together, with new videos and articles on this website.

Note that I am perhaps not writing much about other games such as single player games that have been launched, that’s simply because I don’t play all that many games. I play that what you read in this article and otherwise I develop websites.

Thanks for a great 2012 gaming year.

Steven

Gaming highlights of 2012

In today’s article I (The Game Mistress) show you my highlights of games I played this year. Note, not games that came out in 2012, but titles that I did pick up.

[/intro]

Pandora’s Tower is a great adventure RPG game, with a touching story. This action driven game with challenging boos fights will keep you going for a long time. Never before has relationship building been so important to get the best ending in a video game.

The Last Story
This RPG game is one of the best I have played in the long time, with a fantastic combat system, story line and thrilling boss fights The Last Story is a must have.

Halo 4 is the game many have waited for. To me Halo 4 is far from disappointing with amazing visuals and a great story; this is a game worth having.

WiiU is the console I have waited for a long time with a brand new online system and multimedia function that turns your TV into the central hub for multimedia. The WiiU won’t disappoint you. It’s fantastic to see Nintendo games finally in full HD.

Paper Mario Sticker Star: the latest series in the Paper Mario franchise. This game is different but fun none the less. Go mad with stickers in this adorable 3DS game.

In Darksiders 2, Death has to save his brother “War”. If you love Zelda than this is the game for you, loads of dungeons, and big bosses to keep you busy. Death is a very cool character, with his sarcasm and cold feelings.

Guild Wars 2 is a revolutionary MMO that dares to make a difference in the world of MMO’s, because of its creativity, new questing system, and exploration. This game is the best MMO of 2012.

Torchlight 2 succeeded where Diablo 3 failed, giving an epic hack and slash adventure, where co-op play or offline play both are possible.

New Super Mario Bros U takes the series back to its original roots. Even more fun to play with other people as they will either help you or hinder you.

In Dishonored you have to sneak past the shadows like never before to save the Empress’ daughter from the hands of corruption. You decide who shall live or die.

Nitronic Rush is a crazy arcade racing survival game which will give you a real adrenaline rush as you have to survive and get to the finish line.

In Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, Giana is back in her twisted dream world. This time on the PC! The game has some of the most fantastic art work ever seen!

Ocarina of Time for 3DS was launched. An old classic returns in upgraded graphics and stunning 3D.

I played much more games than that, but that were mostly beta’s and games that weren’t as important as this list.

Tomorrow Steven will write his “highlights of 2012” article.
